My second self inflicted bell ringer was again on Lampson Road in upstate NY. On the nice little gentlemen's farm my dad kept we had horses well my mom and dad had horses I had the family hand me down pony that had belonged to my cousins before me and my great uncle before that his name was Smokey. He was old smelly and grumpy. Never liked him at all. My dad had a beautiful horse named Prince that was a 17 and a half hand quarter horse and he was quite a specimen. Well whenever we would ride that dang old pony would try to take off after that quarter horse and it was scary. But, I was lucky to have a pony and the opportunity to be around such things. Unfortunately riding the pony just wasn't thrilling enough and plus he was small ugly smelly and mean. Not, prince though he was a beautiful horse well mannered and boy was he fast. I just loved watching my dad ride him. Well being left to my own devices often I devised a plan to be a real cowboy. Without riding a pony. As I already told you my dad had to travel for work and my mom worked too so I was often home alone. So I decided I should give that big quarter horse a shot. Well I wasn't quite big enough to get a saddle on him and knew messing with my dad's stuff was probably a bad idea. So bare back it would have to be. So I waited till I was home alone one spring day and decided it was time to ride Prince. I got him out of the barn and immediately ran into a problem. How was I gonna get all the way up on him. Not to be discouraged I figured the best way would be to climb up on something. I looked around the pasture and found something to climb up on near the fence. So I led him over there and got to work gettin on him and just as I was about to be a real cowboy something startled Prince. I was on him but a second when he backs right up into the electric fence. Well a rodeo star I am not. I woke up in the pasture with Prince standing over me. My riding days were over just that quick. I can't say I was manic when I did this but I will say I was prone to taking risks early in life I guess. So lets just say concussions happen to kids and if these two self inflicted two were the only ones maybe I would be in the situation I am now.
